Fast FORWARD: a pre-built headless storefront for Salesforce

Fast FORWARD is FORWARD's own pre-built headless storefront on Salesforce Composable Storefront. It gives retailers and brands a working progressive web app from day one, so the project budget goes into what sets the shop apart. Clients go live in weeks instead of months.

The decision on the table is whether to build your headless storefront from scratch or start from a tested base. A from-scratch build means designing, coding and testing every page type before the first order, and a Commerce Cloud (Agentforce Commerce) implementation built that way quickly runs into the millions. Starting from Fast FORWARD rolls out a full storefront for a fraction of that cost. What you give up is part of the blank page, and for most brands that is a trade worth making.

What Fast FORWARD is

Fast FORWARD is a headless storefront product, built on the Salesforce framework for headless shops. That framework, Composable Storefront (PWA Kit), is a React-based progressive web app: a website that behaves like an app on a phone and talks to B2C Commerce through APIs. Fast FORWARD adds customisable modules and components on top of it, designed by our own team for retail.

Fast FORWARD sits inside the headless architecture explained in headless commerce on Composable Storefront, and it uses the same platform services: Business Manager for merchandising and Page Designer for content.

What comes pre-built

Fast FORWARD starts with the parts every retail storefront needs and every brand would otherwise rebuild. Streamlined checkout flows, Page Designer integration so marketing teams manage content and layout themselves, and tooling for search engine optimisation are part of the base. Payment gateway integration and personalised product recommendations are included too.

Each module is customisable. Your brand's design, page structure and specific journeys are built on top, using the same components. The result is a storefront that looks like your brand while the underlying checkout, account and navigation logic starts from a base built on years of retail work.

Where the weeks come from

A from-scratch headless build spends most of its time on work that is the same for every retailer. Product listing and detail pages, basket, checkout, account pages, search results and the connection to the commerce APIs all need design, development and testing. On top of that comes the setup of hosting, deployments and monitoring.

Fast FORWARD removes most of that repeated work, which is why the timeline shrinks from months to weeks. The saving is largest for brands with several countries or languages, because every page type that already exists does not have to be built and tested once per market.

Measure the saving against what the budget buys instead. The weeks not spent on a basket page go into the pages customers remember: the brand story, the product presentation, the journeys that are yours alone. Those are also the parts of a storefront that keep their value longest.

Hosting and new Salesforce releases are covered

Fast FORWARD runs on Salesforce Managed Runtime, which handles hosting, security and scaling. Your team does not manage servers or plan capacity for peak season. The split between what Salesforce runs and what stays with your team is set out in what Managed Runtime takes over.

Keeping up with Salesforce is the other half of the running cost. We port Fast FORWARD to each new Salesforce release as it arrives. That speed comes from our position: FORWARD is one of roughly fifteen global members of the B2C Commerce Consulting Partner Advisory Board and among the first in the world to test new releases. Clients on Fast FORWARD do not carry that upgrade work alone.

When Fast FORWARD is not the right starting point

A pre-built storefront fits brands whose shop follows recognisable retail patterns, with room for strong design on top. It fits less well when the experience departs from those patterns everywhere, such as a fully configurator-led shop, because much of the base would be replaced. The Fast FORWARD headless storefront earns its place where the base can stay and the brand layer does the talking.

Headless itself is not always the answer either. A brand with a small team and a storefront that rarely changes may be better served by a traditional storefront. We compare the options in SFRA versus Composable Storefront, and we say so plainly when Fast FORWARD is not the fit.

How a Fast FORWARD project runs

A Fast FORWARD project follows the same three phases as all our work. In Discover, we map what your storefront actually needs and challenge the assumptions behind the brief. In Build, one fixed team takes the storefront from first sprint to launch, with no rotations. In Run, we stay on board and track the KPIs agreed at the start.

Your own team takes ownership along the way. We work alongside your people on one shared goal: content editors start in Page Designer as soon as the first pages exist, and your developers work next to ours on the codebase. By launch day, the storefront belongs to the people who will run it.
