The decision is between three routes: re-implement the platform, outsource the daily work or build your own team's capability. Re-implementation is the most expensive and the hardest to reverse. Outsourcing keeps campaigns running but leaves the knowledge outside your organisation. Enablement keeps the capability in-house at the lowest entry cost, provided the set-up underneath is sound and your team has time to learn.
Enablement fits when the platform is sound and usage is thin
Enablement is the right route when the account itself is broadly healthy. Data flows in, consent is handled and emails reach the inbox, but the team uses a fraction of what Marketing Cloud Engagement offers. Typical signs are Journey Builder used mainly for batch sends, segments rebuilt by hand for each campaign and reporting that stops at opens and clicks. Those are gaps in skills and process, and training closes them faster than a rebuild.
It is the wrong route when the data model is broken or the integration with your CRM or commerce platform fails. Training a team on a faulty set-up teaches workarounds. The audit that opens an enablement programme still has value in that case, because it shows what has to be repaired before training starts. If a move to Salesforce's platform-native product is on the table, Marketing Cloud Next and its editions shows what changes, and enablement on the current platform still pays off while that move is some way off.
The audit comes first because training must fit your set-up
FORWARD's Marketing Cloud enablement accelerator starts with four days of analysis of your current Salesforce Marketing Cloud set-up. The result is an improvement report, which we go through with your team in a half-day debrief on site. It gives you a prioritised list of fixes and makes sure the training that follows works on your account instead of a generic demo environment.
The report is useful on its own. If the programme stopped after the debrief, you would still hold a written view of what is misconfigured, what goes unused and what to fix first. That part of the investment keeps its value whatever you decide next.
Hands-on training built around your own journeys
Two days of hands-on training follow, set to your company's goals and to what your team already knows. The sessions cover campaign set-up and management, CRM integration, marketing automation and campaign analysis, using your own data and journeys as material. Your team keeps a slide deck that documents the approach for colleagues who join later.
The level of the group shapes the sessions. A team of experienced email marketers new to Journey Builder needs different training from a team that knows the tool but lacks a testing habit. The audit tells us which one we are working with. Adoption across a wider marketing organisation is a subject of its own, covered in getting teams to adopt Marketing Cloud.
